Healthy Sauces and Side Dishes
It is very important that even during festivals you eat healthy and stay healthy. Festivals are the time to gear up and not let loose the wonderful schedule you have been following. Health is anything but built in a day, but can be mis managed very easily.
Today am putting in a short list of side dishes and dips so that you have something healthy -handy, during the festive season.
Hummus – Egyptian food spread or dip made from mashed cooked chickpeas, sesame seeds and olive oil. click HERE for the recipe.

Mango salsa: 1 large semi ripe mango, one cucumber, onion, fresh lime, cilantro, salt and pepper for seasoning.
Olive blend: Green and black olives, 1 large red bell pepper, red onion, salt and pepper for seasoning.
Feta cheese dip: feta cheese is most popular of all cheeses in middle east. It absorbs flavors well. Severed with crackers and pita bread. Not every body likes it, it is acquired taste.
- 8 oz feta cheese
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp of vegetable oil
This is a wonderful healthy side dish. It goes well with meats or for sandwiches.
- 4 medium beetroots
- Evoo 1tbsp
- Garlic, minced 3 cloves
- Lemon juice, fresh, 1 tbsp
- Yogurt, 1 ½ cups
- Dill or parsley 1-2 tbsp
Coat beets with oil, keep them in a pan with ½ cup of water, cover with foil and roast in preheated oven(400degrees) until they are soft. Grate or cut into small pieces. You can remove skins if you want. I like to grate with peel on.
In a small bowl mix all other ingredients and fold in grated beets at the end.
